Family portraits – frequently asked questions

What does a typical family portrait session look like?

It’s all about having F-U-N!  We love to hear what your ideas are and if you have anything in mind. Location and props are always discussed prior to the session.  It is fun to collaborate, and to think of ways we can make your session unique to your family.  Perhaps we should do an activity- like go get ice cream, do some BMX bike racing, or have a good ‘ole picnic.  Also- be prepared for your shoot so we can start right on time! A lot of times, we schedule your session when the lighting is best, so arriving on time to your shoot is very important.

Will we travel for a family portrait session?

Most definitely we travel!  Please inquire for a detailed quote.

Wondering how you will share your images with family and friends?

We put all of your images from weddings in individual online proofing galleries. This is where you can share the link with family and friends, and everyone has the option to purchase image downloads and prints.

Can you own the printing rights to your images?

You always have the option of purchasing the digital negatives with copyright permission.

Is Brooke the photographer of your family session, or would it be someone else (an associate)?

Brooke is always the photographer for your family session.

What should you wear?

Solid colors work well against a variety of backgrounds, but don’t be afraid to add some fun patterns, scarves, hats, boots, and layers to your outfits!  Stay away from clothes with big graphics or logos on them.  Coordinating your colors in subtle ways looks great, but steer clear of wearing white t-shirts with blue jeans. :)  Above all else, dress in attire that you and your family feels comfortable in!

How do you book?

The session fee along with a signed contract is due in order to book your session.  Everything is on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Remember, we take a limited amount of families each year so the sooner you book, the better!
